Baldassari Family Wines

California's AVA's

  1. Wine with "California" on the label must contain 100% California grapes.
  2. A county designation requires that at least 75% of the grapes must be from that county.
  3. A wine with an AVA designation- such as Stags Leap- must contain 85% of the grapes from that AVA.
  4. A Vineyard designated wine must contain 95% of its grapes from that vineyard. Vineyard names must be used along with County or AVA names.
  5. California also has a law that requires "Napa Valley" to appear on labels in  conjunction with any sub-viticulture area within Napa, i.e. a label with the designation "Rutherford" must also have "Napa Valley".
